Case Study 01

Organizational Snapshot

Sector: Community impact / Public health
Audience: Residents across the state; multi-sector partners
Size: Statewide initiative with cross-agency collaboration
Key Challenge: Funding instability during a major governmental transition

The Challenge

The organization was navigating significant change and had never completed a strategic plan before. Leadership needed a clear direction for the future, but shifting federal administration and funding uncertainty created major risk. The team was stuck between wanting to grow impact and needing to prepare for worst-case scenarios.

Our Approach

We facilitated an equity-centered strategic planning process grounded in the voices of partners and community stakeholders. We helped the team clarify mission priorities, map operational needs, and evaluate the viability of multiple future paths. When political and funding barriers emerged, we quickly pivoted from a traditional strategic plan to a strategic direction model. We led scenario planning for outcomes ranging from reduced funding to potential closure, ensuring the team had informed pathways at every turn. We also supported advocacy efforts to champion the needs of the communities they serve. Throughout the process, we coached leadership to make decisions with confidence and transparency.

Impact

The organization now has a versatile, actionable roadmap that adapts to changing conditions. Leaders gained clarity on what work to protect first, where to scale if resources increase, and how to steward the mission even under pressure. The process deepened alignment across the team and strengthened their role as a trusted voice for community wellbeing. Most importantly, they are positioned to continue serving residents without losing sight of equity or impact.

“Many thanks for guiding us through this strategic direction journey. Your thoughtful approach, skillful facilitation, and ability to adapt to our evolving needs created a process that was both meaningful and impactful. We now have a clear and versatile roadmap that positions our organization to move forward with confidence and respond well to changing conditions.”
